A Dress for Success Spring-Cleaning

Kimpton Buzz

Organized closet

Ah, the proverbial spring-cleaning. There’s something so satisfying and rejuvenating about clearing out the cobwebs and clutter and getting a fresh start. And if you’ve been staring at the tangled jungle that used to be your closet, wondering whether it’s time for a purge or a machete, we have a suggestion for you: Dress for Success.

Dress for Success is a global nonprofit that has helped empower thousands of women, providing them with the tools and support they need to be competitive in today’s job market. A donation of your gently used clothing can help play a major part in getting a disadvantaged woman back on her feet.

So how can you tell when it’s time to part with some clothing?

If you haven’t worn it in two years … get rid of it.

If it doesn’t fit your lifestyle … get rid of it.

If it doesn’t make you happy … get rid of it.

If it’s similar to something you already have … get rid of it

Here’s another handy tip: If you’re not sure about the last time you wore something, try turning all your hangers one way. As you use the clothing, turn the hangers the other way and you’ll find out pretty quickly what you’re wearing regularly and what you’re not.

Dress for Success clothing drive

The Kimpton home-office crew cleaned out their closets and held their own donation drive for Dress for Success. You can, too!

Then find your local Dress for Success affiliate and put your clothing to good use. Business-appropriate apparel, shoes, accessories and jewelry, even unused cosmetics, are all in demand. You can also learn about hosting your own donation drive at your company, school or place of worship. We just had one recently at our Kimpton home office in San Francisco and it was a rousing success.

You can also help out just by staying with us. Use the code DFS when booking (or just click here) and we’ll donate $10 dollars to Dress for Success, and give you a 15 percent discount. We’ve been a Dress for Success partner for 10 years and a number of our employees are DFS volunteers, so we know firsthand the powerful impact this organization has had on woman around the world, from Arkansas to Albania. So tomorrow morning when you stare into your closet, don’t think machete … think philanthropy.
