Let’s Celebrate Earth Week!

Kimpton Buzz

We give the planet a loving squeeze all year long through our EarthCare program. During Earth Week – which starts today! – our hotels and restaurants show the environment even more affection with everything from eco-focused events to sustainable-minded menus.

Here’s a sampling of what our nationwide spots have going on for this week for Earth Week.

Chef Dennis Marron from Poste Moderne Brasserie in Washington D.C. celebrates Earth Day with a special event focused on local food, drink and music.

Area 31
and its Executive Chef E. Michael Reidt teamed up with Paradise Farms, an organic farm in south Florida, to create a new garden on the restaurant’s 16th-floor sky deck terrace. It bubbles over with fresh herbs and small produce, all of which will pop up on the menu throughout the season. In honor of the garden’s debut, Area 31 hosts a happy hour on Friday, April 20 from 6-10 p.m. to coincide with Earth Week. Expect $5 garden cocktails, including the Exhalation (organic basil-infused vodka, cucumber-agave puree, and soda), as well as beer, wine and prosecco. A portion of the proceeds benefits the local non-profit Roots in the City, which is devoted to community development, job training, inner-city beautification and healthy-eating initiatives. Earth Day-inspired menu specials are on the dinner menu from April 18-22, so find your way to the dining room for salt-roasted beet salad, hog snapper and slow-roasted pork shoulder.
Area 31, located on the 16th floor of EPIC Hotel, 270 Biscayne Boulevard Way, Miami (305-424-5234 or area31restaurant.com).

Entrance donations ($15, suggested) benefit the New York Restoration Project, a non-profit that helps green and beautiful open spaces in underserved communities.

Poste Moderne Brasserie re-opens its courtyard with an Oysterstock Earth Day celebration on Sunday, April 22, from 2-7 p.m. If you’re bonkers for bivalves, you’ll love Executive Chef Dennis Marron’s different preparations of Rappahannock and Ware Shore Oysters, as well as steamed Olde Salt clams, house-made sausages and other treats. Local breweries, distilleries and wineries lend sips (be sure to try Port City Brewery’s Oyster Stout) and there’s live music from three D.C.-area bands. The best part is proceeds from the event benefit the Oyster Recovery Project, a non-profit that restores oysters for ecological and economical reasons.

The Butcher’s Block, a specialty market alongside BRABO restaurant in Alexandria, celebrates with a weekend of free tastings of locally made wines and specialty foods.
