A New Kimpton Hotel in Denver

Destinations

Denver Union Station Neighborhood

Denver’s Union Station neighborhood will be home to a new Kimpton Hotel.

We at Kimpton are big fans of bold designs that incorporate sustainability and adaptive reuse of old buildings. As Kermit the Frog and the Incredible Hulk know, it’s not easy being green, but it’s certainly good for the planet. So we’re thrilled to announce a new Kimpton hotel in Denver that’s part of one of the largest redevelopment efforts in the country, coupling dynamic architecture with next-gen public transportation infrastructure.

Our as-yet-unnamed hotel will be adjacent to the city’s Union Station, originally built in 1881, which is the centerpiece of a massive 13-building, 4-million-square-foot project. Spearheaded by Continuum Partners and Union Station Neighborhood Co., the historic train depot and surrounding neighborhood are being transformed into a transportation hub that will not only become one of Denver’s iconic locations, but also set a standard for cities around the world. When completed, it will feature retail boutiques, a farmers’ market, public squares and courtyards, gardens, cafes … and a Kimpton hotel.

Denver Union Station Terminal

The new terminal will be very sci-fi, minus the dystopia.

The Union Station project links together Denver’s — and Colorado’s — transportation systems, becoming a nexus for city and regional buses, light rail, trains, and bikes. (A commuter bike station will offer lockers, showers and a bicycle shop for repairs and equipment. A big thumb’s up for that since we’re big fans of biking.) With its contemporary installations, murals, fountains and proposed schedule of concerts and festivals, the Union Station neighborhood will become both a destination and a gateway. Which is pretty Zen if you think about it.

Our 200-room hotel will be built from the ground up, and there will be two restaurants and bars — focusing on local, chef-driven fare — as well as tons of meeting space. It’s scheduled for an early 2017 opening and will be our second Denver property, joining Hotel Monaco — another adaptive reuse project set in a landmark building listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Kermit would be so proud.

Very exciting! I was a Project Engineer on the Hotel Monaco in Denver many years ago and actually met Bill Kimpton. The entire process was exciting and getting to know Kimpton hotels around the country has been a pleasure. Please contact me if you need resource information – I am now an Owner’s Representative Project Manager for commercial construction and am still in Denver. How can I help?

    • Kimpton Kimpton says:

Wow. You met Bill Kimpton … that’s so great. There are so many of us who wish we could say the same. He still holds a very special place in the heart of Kimpton. So glad your Denver Monaco experience was a great one. We’re really excited about this project and will be sure to pass your contact information on to our Construction and Development team. Thanks for reaching out.

Any idea on the opening yet?

  3. Bobbie Chapman says:

Is hotel open by October, 2015? Planning trip to Denver Oct. 8-10 — just wondering! Thanks.

    • Faith Yi Kimpton says:

      Hi Bobbie,

We’re a wee bit delayed and the hotel will be open in 2016. Please check back on KimptonHotels.com for more details as that gets closer!

  4. Ben says:

Any updates on this? I can’t find anything about this hotel anywhere on Kimpton’s website… did the project fall through or is it just delayed further? I’m planning a trip to Denver and would love to stay at a brand new Kimpton if there is one forthcoming… 🙂

    Thanks!
    Ben

      Hi Ben!
Thanks so much for following the progress of our hotel in Denver, CO! We don’t have an opening date yet, but it will likely be in early 2017. We look forward to seeing you there (maybe as one of the first guests!).

I live and work within a mile of this property! Now that it has started, it’s going up fast! Can’t wait to see the finished product and to start booking for friends and family!
You’re all so good about posting updates on new properties… just know I have been stalking (in a good way!) this one in anticipation!

  6. Chelsea Conley says:

Do they have a good and beverage director I could reach out to? I am with Southern Glazers in Denver

  7. Shane David says:

Will you have a pool on site? We really miss hanging by the pool at the Monaco.

    • Faith Yi Kimpton says:

Great question, Shane. The Kimpton Hotel Born won’t have a pool, but the hotel will be within walking distance of the Platte River for walking, biking and kayaking. Hope to see you there!

  8. Allen Lee says:

Is there a free night offer for the Born Hotel in Denver for Inner circle members? I did not see that offer and it usually has it posted on the Kimpton Karma site on new hotels.

  9. Kimpton says:

They’re not participating in that offer just yet, Allen (bummer, we know.) As soon as they are it’ll be updated on our site, so feel free to check back often: http://bit.ly/1sXHlVZ.
