Take a Spin with Goodland Hotel’s VNYL Record Shop

Destinations

It’s almost a given anytime you plan a road trip, you’ll want to pack a playlist.

So it seemed apropos that Kimpton’s first hotel record shop would find a home in our bohemian-inspired The Goodland Hotel in Goleta, California. It’s got The Beach Boys written all over the hotel with its laidback beach vibe in Santa Barbara, mere blocks from the Pacific Ocean.

This isn’t your everyday record store. It’s powered by VNYL (their first hotel collaboration), which is based out of LA, where their charming storefront sits amidst the chic shops of Venice’s Abbot Kinney. At VNYL, old-school music meets present-day music lovers, as VNYL is part record shop and part music discovery subscription service.

Now what do you do with your shiny new record? Each guest room comes with its own record player. Go ahead and pick out records from the more than 1,000-plus collection to spin throughout your stay, and if you love ‘em, you can buy ‘em. The roster includes a wide-range of classics from the last few decades, as well as a number of musicians who have actually played at The Goodland.

If you can’t decide between jazz and alt rock, meet Lea Sindija, The Goodland’s record concierge, who curates custom playlists and brings the music to you. Think of her as your own personal deejay. Her personal favs? Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, Best Coast and emerging artists from the local area. This is the Central California coastline after all.

To celebrate the record shop launch, dance along at a live music event on May 19th, featuring Grammy-nominated Christian Rich, and scratch vinyl legend Neil Armstrong (the deejay, not the astronaut), who was also a former tour DJ for Jay Z. Can’t make it? The Goodland is featuring a vinyl-inspired hotel package that includes a record of your choice, plus two cocktails at the Outpost or Good Bar. We like the Sly Grog with rum, sauvignon blanc, vanilla, lemon and mint, but that’s just us.
