Yoga & Breakfast Routines That Are “Om”-azing

Travel Tips

What goes together better than morning yoga and a good, healthy breakfast? We can’t find a more perfect match, especially in September — it’s National Yoga Month and National Breakfast Month. To show our love of both, we turned to some of Kimpton’s top yogis to find out how they stretch out and fuel up in the morning.

Lisa Demoney, Senior Director, Digital Marketing & Media

Morning yoga ritual: My favorite way to start my day is at 5 a.m. with 20 minutes of pranayama and 10 minutes of meditation, enjoying the silence before the rest of the world awakens. I follow that by 45 minutes of asana practice and then it’s time to fuel the body along with the spirit.

Favorite breakfast: I love a strong cup of coffee, preferably Ethiopian Harrar. I must have a banana and complement it with sprouted grain toast topped with avocado, a soft boiled egg or almond butter.

Where she poses: As Kimpton’s resident home-office yogi, she is certified RYT200 and teaches weekly Wednesday yoga breaks to employees.

Erin DiAngelis, Yoga Instructor

Morning yoga ritual: I love to start the day with a positive mindset because I believe the way you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. I put on some fun jams (including ’90s R&B) that inspire me to move, and begin with some deep breathing to bring me into the present moment. For anyone with an active mind (like me!) some invigorating sun salutations are the perfect way to dive into yoga and warm up your body. I love playing with upside-down poses like handstands against a wall, or shoulder stand, then ending with a deep hip opener (pigeon is my fave!).

Favorite breakfast: I’m addicted to my protein smoothie — I add some spinach, coconut milk, protein mix and chia seeds. Yum! Keeps me fueled for all my yoga classes!

Where she poses: Erin teaches yoga classes at The Goodland hotel in Santa Barbara.

Tony Marra, Area Marketing Manager, Kimpton Hotels of Florida & Grand Cayman

Morning yoga ritual: I open my window, listening to the sound of ocean waves because it sets me up with a positive mindset to greet the day. I then take a few minutes to meditate, clearing my mind and setting an intention before I start my quick morning stretch.

Favorite breakfast: I love smoothies! It’s a delicious and refreshing way to nourish the body and boost your energy without coffee or an energy drink. One of my favorites: Lime, Coconut Milk, Banana, Pineapple and Kale.

Where she poses: To celebrate National Yoga Month in Florida, Tony launched “30 days of poses” at the hotels with instructors from exhale, Lululemon, Kimpton spas and employees.

We hope our yogis inspire you to boost your morning routine. Namaste!
