10 Ways to Cool Down in Our Hottest City – Miami!

Destinations

Hot:
adjective
1.
giving off heat; having a high temperature
2.
extremely exciting or interesting

We didn’t need to check with Webster’s to know that one of our favorite cities, Miami, is hot in more ways than one. That’s especially true in summertime, when rising temps make area attractions radiate a fun-loving energy you just can’t find anywhere else.

So you don’t sweat your travel plans, we talked to our friends at Miami’s EPIC Hotel, located on the waterfront, where Miami River meets Biscayne Bay. They shared the best ways in the city to cool down.

1. Rent a poolside cabana.
Your own little shady paradise can be staked out around EPIC’s two outdoor swimming pools. It’s all on the 16th floor – so the views are refreshing, too.

2. Charter a boat from the hotel marina.
Marina staff work ’round the clock and can charter deep-sea fishing or sightseeing cruises. If you have your own vessel and are staying at the hotel, they’ll help you moor it.

3. Jetski and parasail with Aquaworld Miami.
Pummel across Biscayne Bay on a jetski rented from the local adventure-sport company. Or get lifted into the cool winds on a parasail towed behind a 35-foot offshore powerboat (shown at top).

4. Chill out with Pure Hammam Therapy at Exhale spa.
The new treatment at EPIC’s onsite oasis starts with a head-to-toe body wash, after which you relax on a heated hammam stone and enjoy an exfoliation with organic aromatherapy scrub. What’s really cool: It ends with a rinse, aromatherapy mist and tall glass of cold tea.

5. Splash around at Grapeland Water Park.
Little swim fans flip for the family attraction featuring “dive-in movies” (movies shown in a shallow pool area), twisty water slides, a lazy river and pirate-themed toddler play land.

6. Get refreshed with a Cool Down Cocktail
Bartenders at Kyma Lounge, the hotel’s new lobby’s bar/lounge, make a sprightly mix of pear vodka, fresh pear puree, fresh lime juice and simple syrup.

7. Eat ceviche and sip rosé.
Area 31 restaurant on the 16th floor of the hotel cools down your palate every weekday with its Raw and Rosé happy hour special. Glasses of the bright-tasting wine (a Juvé y Camps, for example) and Chef E. Michael Reidt’s ceviche (rock shrimp, among others) are just $5 each on Mon.-Wed. from 5-8 p.m., Thurs. and Fri. from 5-10 p.m., and all day Sat. and Sun.

8. Explore Miami Science Museum.
Sometimes, all you need is a little air conditioning. At the city’s cultural icon, you get this and much more – a planetarium, interactive exhibits and wildlife center, to name a few.

9. Get a scoop at The Frieze ice cream shop.
Frozen treats at the Miami mainstay range from old favorites (chocolate, vanilla, cookie dough) to unusual flavors like lychee sorbet, and Grapenuts and raisins. Everything is made fresh there daily.

10. Take the plunge with South Beach Divers.
Go into the wild blue yonder with experts that lead you on scuba and snorkeling trips to Key Largo’s Pennekamp Marine Sanctuary. Experienced divers can go farther afield on wreck diving junkets.

Sounds like the definition of “fun,” if you ask us.
