Just in Time for Summer: Dream Blades Roll into a Hotel Near You

Destinations

Are you ready to experience some old-school fun? Do you wish you could relive the days of iconic pop hits, totally rad fashion, and inline skating? If so, you’re in luck! It may be 2023 but we’re living it up like it’s 1993 this summer with a new, limited-time inline skate rental program called “Dream Blades” at select Kimpton properties across the United States, starting July 21st.

And to make the experience even more fun, the Dream Blades program will feature vibrant neon accessories (think hot pink knee pads, helmets, fanny packs, etc.) that will make life a little less plastic and a lot more fantastic!

And skating isn’t just a blast from the past — it’s also a great way to stay fit and healthy. Skating not only improves your balance, flexibility, core stability, and cardiovascular endurance, but it’s also low impact, which means it’s more gentle on your joints.

Nervous to lace up? Just think about how you’ll discover a new way to enjoy the outdoors, see a city from a unique perspective, or just relive your youth. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned pro, Dream Blades will have you skating to your own beat across each city in style.

No clue where to go? We’ve got you covered on the best spots to skate in each city where the Dream Blades program is available.

Huntington Beach, California

Huntington Beach boasts 10 miles of uninterrupted shoreline, and running parallel to it is a paved beach path offering the perfect route for hours of smooth skating. After fueling up at Pacific Hideaway, head to Kimpton Shorebreak’s local partner, Surf City Skates, to grab your skates.

Our top recommendations? Head south to skate down to Newport Beach, or cruise north into Sunset Beach. Whichever way you choose, the epic views leave little to be desired.

Seattle, Washington

Kimpton Hotel Vintage’s central location in downtown Seattle gives you easy access to the greatest hits of any Seattle visit. One of our favorite spots for skating includes the 9-acre Olympic Sculpture Park, where you can take in contemporary masterpieces and breathtaking waterfront views before heading back to recharge with dinner at Tulio.

We’re also big fans of Alki Beach, which features a 4.4-mile-long stretch of paved path with stunning views of downtown Seattle and Elliott Bay. It’s a paradise for roller skaters who love sunsets and sea breezes.

Miami Beach, Florida

South Beach is Miami’s gateway to fun in the sun by day, and alluring seductions by night, so explore all your route options with Kimpton Hotel Palomar South Beach.

The hotel has partnered with South Florida Trikke to offer guests the opportunity to rent blades and tour buzzing South Beach. Top spots we recommend include South Pointe Park, Lummus Park, and the famous Ocean Drive Beachwalk.

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Boston may be known as America’s Walking City, but it’s also one of the best cities in the country to “roll around” on wheels. Partnering with nearby Beacon Hill Skate Shop, Boston’s oldest skate shop, Kimpton Marlowe guests will be offered reduced rates when renting rollerblades for the day.

This means guests can easily rent and then rollerblade along the scenic Esplanade, along car-free Memorial Drive on Sundays during the summer, or in the Lynch Family Skatepark which is an easy walk from the hotel. Marlowe will also offer guests complimentary use of some fashionable (and safe) accessories including neon fanny packs and bright-colored padding to ensure this adventure is as fun and colorful as the iconic doll that inspired it.

The hotel’s restaurant, Bambara Kitchen & Bar, is also excited to take part in the program by offering a cocktail special called “Life in Plastic, It’s Fantastic.”

New York, New York

From bustling streets to iconic landmarks, there are plenty of places to hit the pavement in the concrete jungle. Central Park is not only one of the most beautiful outdoor green spaces in the city, it also provides a challenging course for more seasoned in-line skaters.

For those opting for a simpler route, the West Side bike path passes by notable scenic spots like the Intrepid Air/Space Museum, Chelsea Piers complex, and if you make it this far, all the way down to the World Trade Center and into Battery Park City.

For guests who book the Dream Blades package at Kimpton Eventi, they will be gifted neon retro skating accessories, including candy-colored sun visors, sweatbands and fanny packs, as well as the option to rent rollerblades from the hotel to explore NYC in style!
