Now, we know that appreciation should be shown to our mothers year-round, but like birthdays, Christmases and Valentines, Mother’s Day is a welcome excuse to go all out – and let’s face it, what mom doesn’t want to be pampered for an entire weekend? Because it’s never too early or late to start hunting for deals, we’ve compiled some easy-to-reach weekend getaways filled with all the things that (most) moms love to be showered with.
New York, NY
The Big Apple is a chance for mom to live out her Sex and the City dreams (but not completely if dad’s still in the picture). Here you both can shop till you drop at the designer stores of Fifth Avenue, the boutiques of Soho, and the department stores of Midtown. Broadway is largely back, so whether her tastes lean on Harry Potter, Book of Mormon or Moulin Rouge, you should be able to snag some great seats (FYI the Kimpton Muse is right around the corner). And least not we forget all the famed NYC attractions like the Empire State, Grand Central Station, Brooklyn Bridge and Rockefeller Center. Get her a Statue of Liberty foam crown and be an unashamed tourist for the weekend.
Savannah, GA
If your mom loves pretty gardens, then be prepared to fill your camera roll in Savannah. The city is famed for some of the best manicured parks and gardens in the country, and there sure are a lot of them here. Every few blocks mean the arrival of an outdoor gem; but the star attraction is Forsyth Park, 30-acres of lush green strolling, with frequent markets, performances and more. It’s also a filming location of the classic 1994 movie, Forrest Gump, and its iconic fountain is one of the state’s most photographed attractions. Don’t forget to bring your Southern Belle to our Kimpton Brice for some sweet tea.
Palm Beach, FL
We all know Rodeo Drive, but East Coast moms may want to avoid the long flight across the country and pop down to Palm Beach instead. Worth Avenue is Florida’s answer to Beverly Hill’s famous destination, and it’s immaculate. You’ll wander shops and galleries filled with treasures, dine at cozy cafes and upscale restaurants, and best of all it’s right by the beach. You know what that means: water activities. Try Live Free Diving if you want to snorkel alongside stingrays, Visit Palm Beach for kayaking the waterfront, and if all that sounds too strenuous, then perhaps she’d perfect a yacht charter instead: Nantucket Mermaids Yacht Charters is a wonderful woman-owned small business specializing in boutique boats. If you’re flying into Fort Lauderdale, be sure to stay the night at The Goodland too.
San Francisco, CA
The best city for foodie moms; base yourselves at the new Kimpton Alton in Fisherman’s Wharf and let the culinary journey begin. Start with some crab at the wharf’s stands, and browse the artisan goodies in the nearby Ferry Building Marketplace. After a spot of shopping at Union Square, we suggest going to the biggest Chinatown outside of Asia. Here, you can indulge in dim sum, authentic Peking duck, noodles and sweet treats like the Hong Kong egg tart (that’s if you haven’t bought everything from the Ghirardelli flagship on North Point).
Tulum
Mom young at heart and ready to paint the town red? Then journey down to Tulum and have her join the cool kids at Aluna asap. Tulum is a peaceful bohemian escape, but at the same time is packed with chic upscale restaurants and bars, meaning the perfect tropical weekend away. The hotel also hosts rooftop yoga and has a brilliant spa offering massages and facials like the Mayan Ritual Massage and the Deep Cleansing Facial Treatment. Post wellness margaritas are optional (but highly encouraged).
