There’s not much we love more than a skillfully crafted cocktail and a cuddly critter, which is why we here at Kimpton give both such a high priority. And apparently, the love is showing: A handful of Kimpton properties have been nominated for USA Today Travel’s 10Best.com Readers’ Choice Awards in the categories of Best Hotel Bar and Best Pet-Friendly Hotel.
And the nominees are …
For Best Hotel Bar: Jasper’s Corner Tap & Kitchen, San Francisco; Sable Kitchen & Bar, Chicago; and Square 1682, Philadelphia.
For Best Pet-Friendly Hotel: EPIC Hotel, Miami, and Hotel Monaco, Alexandria, VA.
And here’s the part where we say (in our best Hollywood actor voice), you know, it’s just such an honor to be nominated. Of course we feel all of our hotels and bars should make the list, but deep down, we’ll admit it … it would be pretty cool to make the top 10. And with your help, we can.

All kidding aside, we do feel awfully proud to be among the 20 properties nominated for each of these recognitions. The Best Hotel Bar list was compiled by Noah Rothbaum of Liquor.com, which was given a James Beard Award this year for its cocktail videos. The Pet-Friendly Hotels were selected by Kelly E. Carter, founder of Jet Set Pets, a luxury travel site for pets and their people.
And as a special incentive (not bribe, incentive), we’ll pass along a recipe for a simple-but-creative summer libation that gives a nod and a wink to our nominations: the Salty Dog.
Salty Dog
2 oz. gin
4 oz. grapefruit juice
Salt the rim of a highball glass, add ice, pour ingredients in, stir. Add a citrus wedge for garnish. Add a dash of peach bitters if you want to get fancy. Drink, vote, repeat.
